When it comes to leadership, the first thing many people would think of is a nice-looking executive-style chair (feels comfortable), a good remuneration package (I know you wouldn´t mind a better car!), and even some importance attached to the way you move, or wear your tie.
Since the beginning of time, the human race has been keen on stereotyping. On many occasions it has been but a feeble attempt of our rational being to explain the world we are living in using simplified terms; primarily due to the fear of the unknown and the lack of analytical ability, or plainly to find an excuse for our inability to see the truth...
And the truth is hard. Ask any passionate leader if their chair or remuneration package is the driving force behind their vision. Ask them if the time spent on humbly serving people and addressing their needs can ever be fit into the 8 working hours´ frame. Having got ´NO´ as an answer to all posed questions would be a good platform to appreciate the leaders that God appointed over us.
Mr. P. Buis, my Principal, a down-to-earth man, is a bright star illuminating the district leadership arena and just the person you need to be on the team of, if you want to be given an opportunity to grow and then be released unconditionally to serve the South African people. An open attitude and positivity he projects are contagious. A human-being, though, he draws heavily from guidance and support of our Heavenly Father.
Ashton Secondary has become what it is now, a place where your potential is discovered, properly utilized and developed to an extent that you start to believe in yourself and empower others, because the school management team with Peter Buis at its steer have got the recipe right, after looking for God´s will in everything they do. No wonder the anointing and power of God rests on so many things around the school life these days - and all this starts with leaders acknowledging Jesus as the inspiration behind their leadership style.
I was given a chance to become what I am. In all truth, if it had not been for this school, I would have missed the plan of God for my life. I myself, like so many others, am a proud product of Ashton Secondary - discovered, cultivated, empowered and... born!
It is YOUR turn now.
