Feel the colour

And that has happened again – with a burst of emotion, starting very early in the morning when the learners arrived in casual wear, followed by a couple of lessons that were oozing with anticipation of the promised celebration of love.

The Valentine’s Day has transformed the school day into a beautiful and colourful festive site. I could not believe to see the young men and women I know, and not being able to recognize them at once. So many of them looked irresistible in their Nike’s, Levi’s and simply good PEP clothes, moving graciously as to attract attention of the peers they secretly admire.

Joseph Carelse and Louis Noble have opened the celebration with a formal concert where the learners had ample opportunity to display their singing and poetic talent.

I was amazed at how bold and presentable the learners were on stage. Even those you would never have thought to be able to reap so much applause. I am so proud of our learners! Amid the poverty and despair out there in many homes in their community, there is a will to carry on, there is dream that just won’t die, there is a future waiting to happen! And that’s exactly what they do. They seize the moment.

On completion of the concert, the sales were held at different strategic points. We are still to hear about the total money made by the different grade groups, but judging by how fast the chocolate roses of the grade 10 group sold out, the prospects seem promising.

I also understood many children waited for ‘the Jol’. This sounds like the disco party to be held at another strategic point. Can this be more exciting than roses?

We are yet to see.
