Tonight starting at 20:00 a Valentine’s Day disco party is to be offered by Ashton Secondary. This is a purely fund-raising event, shunned by some teachers for religious reasons and fervently supported by the others.
‘We can have any personal reasons for not attending’, refers Peter Buis (Principal) to the disco party, ‘but there’s no denying the fact: people like dancing. It depends what motives lie behind it.’
On the other hand, speaking in narrow perspective, judging by the money collected from the parents for the disco tickets during the week in class, there is very little contribution on the part of the parent component. For example, out of 43 learners in 10C, only 3 bought a mere 4 tickets.
Is it proof of real financial incapability (and that could be true in some cases)? Or is it merely a lack-of-involvement and we-take-things for granted business?
This raises again many questions around the parents’ involvement in their own children’s many-faceted school life.
If only every parent understood: you don’t support your child, your child won’t go far in life. Your attitude will describe you as a parent.
Another thing, they say that this time the disco will go well beyond 0:00 and even up to 4:00am!
I can’t believe somebody can dance that long without a good legs massage…
