The Choir and the search for new identity

During Monday Assembly this week the School Choir under professional direction of Marinda Beukes has made its debut.

For the first time in the history of Ashton Secondary we all have been privileged to witness the clear harmony of voices that is not easily forgotten. Having the choir around feels like wind in the sails of a ship. Do you remember the feeling a state anthem evoked in you every time you'd hear it? The Spirit of change is definitely making things happen for us.

Identity, the feeling of belonging, pride and confidence as one goes for the dream, - that's what so many people (who have once been children) in our (coloured) community are failing to find so often. Here at Ashton Secondary we decided to break away from the past to find our new identity, which is actively being established right now. Our brand new choir is a huge step forward towards it.
