Mr. Kushido


Mr. Ronald Anthony Lekay has been teaching at Ashton Secondary School for the past 18 years. He matriculated in 1985 at Langeberg Secondary School and went to study at the Cape University of Technology then called Pen Tech. He graduated in Accounting, Economics and Business Economics in 1989. In 1990 he started teaching Accounting at Ashton Secondary School.

Mr. Lekay is a fully qualified Martial Teacher and holds the highest rank of fifth Degree Black Belt in Kushido Karate do. Therefore he is called Shihan , which if translated means “master” or “ Teacher of teachers”. He started his martial arts training in 1983 under Patrick Leoschut then Brown belt and Sensei Reggie Potgieter ( 2nd Dan) of Worcester at the Robertson Dojo. He attained his 1st Degree black belt in 1991 at the Kushido International headquarters at Stillbay South Africa. He received his gradings as follows; Nidan (2nd Degree) in 1994; Sandan (3rd Degree) in 1997; Yondan (4th Degree) in 2001.

After intensive training under the master and Founder of Kushido, Hanshi Hugh St John Thomson, he and his martial Arts colleague for many years, Mr. Freddy Williams received their Godan (5th degree blackbelt) master ranking (shihan). Mr. Lekay together with Mr. Williams has been teaching Kushido at the Robertson Dojo since 1992.

Mr. Lekay says that the martial arts has changed his life for the better and finds enjoyment in seeing the changes in his students’ lives. They become stronger in mind, body en spirit. And as they improve in their skills they become humble, caring, independent, strong-minded and just better human beings and citizens.

He will never stop teaching because of the difference you make in other people’s lives and influencing them for the better.
